I’ve had chronic back pain for the past two years. I’ve seen a physical therapist off and on for the past three years with little success. I just started seeing a chiropractor and he gave me a diagnosis of degenerative disc disease. It completely matches my symptoms. I’ve started the treatment and I haven’t noticed a difference yet. It’s also going to cost a lot and insurance won’t help much.

I know that some health care practitioners are skeptical about chiropractic medicine. What are your thoughts?

Has anyone else had this experience? I started treatment a little over a month ago, just general chiropractic check-ups, based on a referral by my primary care physician for stress and anxiety.

It HAS done wonders for that, along with a new dietary plan and lifestyle changes, but I’ve been experiencing on and off jaw pain, moderate to severe at times, when trying to close my jaw (as when chewing) or sometimes when I open it too wide. It kind of varies. I went back yesterday and she used some sort of tool that taps on the sides of my neck and jaw several times, and said something about a rotating atlas (or something like that), but it doesn’t seem to have helped much.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

This causes mild pain but I am seeing a GREAT Chiropractic who has almost made the pain go completely away. I just started on the DRX9000 machine yesterday but was reading on what it does and it seems to be more for spinal problems? Can the DRX 9000 help my hips as well?
This machine is suppose to help level my hips again..is this true?

After my x-ray, the chiropractor said my neck curve was opposite what it should be, and my spine twists a little bit as it goes up my back (acute scoliosis), so he prescribed 3 treatments a week for 4 weeks. I came in with mild back pain and a neck pain only if I leaned my head back.

After the 3rd treatment, I got a horrible persistent neck pain that got so bad I could only turn my head 3 inches in any direction, and I couldn’t sleep. It got better and then flared up to being worse. Now it’s a bit better, but I’m almost a week out from that pain and have been through 6 treatments. He says everyone has ups and downs. Should I keep going? Or could there be something that needs an MRI?

Note: I respect chiropractic and understand that it can help for maintance of minor back pain/discomfort. I know this because I occasionally see a chiro for my back, and the adjustments feel good and clear up mild back/neck pain.

But a friend of mine has very severe back pain, and has had this for a long time. And although chiropractic has offered some relief, even after numerous visits, the pain has not diminished and continues to persist. So I’m curious to find out, what other alternatives are there for individuals with severe, chronic back pain? (other than simply popping pain killers, of course)

Acupuncture is out of the question, as insurance wont cover this service for them.

Thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks.
